At night, it is safe to go out in the city centre and the bordering neighborhoods of Puerto Madero, San Telmo, Recoleta, Barrio Norte, Palermo. If you go out at night, we suggest you do it in groups of at least two persons and take a “radio taxi” or “remise”, particularly if you go home late at night after a party or from a disco.

We also suggest that you have a radio taxi or remise business card with you 24 hours a day, so that you have a safe telephone number at hand whenever you want to call a cab.

We recommend that you do not carry your passport nor any credit cards with you, and no more than $200 Argentinean pesos in cash. Be careful with cameras and expensive, colorful video equipment. Your driver’s license or a similar credential is sufficient to prove your ID.

Should you be robbed, it is advisable not to resist. It is more effective to hand over the cash you carry with you, go to the nearest store and ask to make a telephone call to the closer police station.

With any health problems, you can go to the Emergency Room or to a doctor’s office in a public hospital. If you visit an Emergency Room, you will be attended in the order of your arrival (“first come first serve”). Public hospitals usually see hundreds of patients each day.

We recommend that you have medical insurance.
